Lip Blushing

Lip blushing is a permanent makeup enhancement that introduces color and definition to your lips. This service involves softly shading the lip area with pigment to restore color, remove blotchiness, and provide a more full appearance. Lip blushing can range from balancing the natural color of your lips to adding a soft, matte lipstick look.

How long does it last?

The color will fade over time, but you can get a touch-up to maintain the color. The initial color will fade by 40-60%, and you can expect a touch-up after 6-8 weeks. You may want another touch-up 2-5 years later.

How does it work?

The lips will look darker and more like lipstick right after the procedure, but will heal to a more natural tint. The healing process has two stages:

  • Skin peeling and flaking: This stage lasts 3-7 days and can make the lips chapped.
  • Natural cell turnover: This stage takes a couple of weeks, and the color will bloom back to the surface.

Is it painful?

The procedure uses a topical anesthetic to keep pain to a minimum. Pain tolerance varies from person to person, but most people describe minimal to no pain.

How do I prepare for the procedure?

You should avoid alcohol, caffeine, smoking, and tobacco products for at least 24 hours before the procedure. You should also avoid lip plumping or numbing products.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

  • There will be moderate swelling, redness and bruising for the first 5 days.
  • Apply a Ziploc bag filled with water and ice for no more than 15 minutes at a time to reduce swelling.
  • During the initial healing period, there should be minimal scabbing or flaking of the skin. If there is scabbing or flaking, do not pick, and allow the scab or dry skin to come off on its own.
  • Expect the color to eventually lighten by up to 40% once the healing process is complete.
  • Color may appear uneven at different stages of healing. Be patient. This is a process that does not yield immediate results.
